Potassium is a mineral component, the right amount of which is necessary for the proper functioning of the body. Consumed potassium is absorbed mainly in the small intestine in about 90%, which makes it relatively easy to maintain its proper concentration in cells ^[1].

Hypokalaemia, or potassium deficiency, can cause a number of distressing symptoms e.g.: constipation, fatigue, muscle weakness and general malaise. In a more advanced stage, breathing difficulties, polyuria and cardiac arrhythmias may occur ^{[1, 4]}.
